Christian Benitez (May 1, 1986 – July 29, 2013) was an Ecuadorian professional football player. He played as a forward for several clubs, including Santos Laguna (Mexico), Birmingham City (England), and Club America (Mexico). He was known as "Chucho" and was considered one of the best Ecuadorian football players of his generation. In his career, he won several titles, including the Mexican Primera Division with Club America in 2013. On July 29, 2013, Christian Benitez died of a heart attack at the age of 27. He was mourned not only in Ecuador but also by the football community worldwide.
